The City of St. Charles, the St. Charles Park District and the River Corridor Foundation commissioned an engineering feasibility study in the fall of 2016 to research the feasibility of removing the current St. Charles dam and replacing it with another structure closer to the UP railroad trestle. The primary focus of the study is to prove that the proposed changes to the river will have no impact on the water level on the river north of the railroad trestle, determine what (if any) impact the proposed changes might have on the flood plain and whether the hydraulic flows and river bed limestone are supportive of the proposed changes. This study will also provide some preliminary (but rough) cost estimates for this portion of the project. This engineering study will be completed in early June 2017, although some of the preliminary findings should be available for review by April 2017.
